Rebirth of a trend: Danielle Staub swears off sex
Posted by Natalie Zutter , Feb, 2010 @ 9:51 amNow we’ve got two very different high-profile born-again virgins: the politician’s daughter who may have only “sinned” a few times but got saddled with a kid for it, and… Real Housewives of New Jersey’s Danielle Staub. Perhaps wishing to put a lid on some of her dramas — which include a career as a dancer (whether she was a “prostitution whore” is still up for debate) and an arrest tied to a shady husband, plus a name change — Staub has announced, to People no less, that she will not have sex til she gets married again.
“I’m abstinent now,” she tells PEOPLE. “I realized that with abstinence, if you really, really believe in yourself like I do, you discover your own self-worth. Abstinence means you refrain from any sex — thinking about it, doing it — even to yourself! I’m a born-again virgin.”
"Believing in yourself" = conflating your petty issues with other women in a catty, publicized fashion? Ahhh.
In fact, Staub says it’s been “over a year-and-a-half” since she’s had sex.
I think that's called "not getting laid". Call me crazy, but methinks this vow will actually cause more friction between Staub and her Franklin Lake frenemies. It's interesting that Staub melds giving up her new virginity with the institution of marriage, something she's been through at least once already. For Bristol, it makes some sense; she realized that a shotgun engagement wasn't realistic, but she's also nineteen and much more likely to find a life mate. Equating sex with marriage seems more realistic for her, because marriage is a natural progression in her life. For Staub to do the same, seems to be overestimating the institution and substituting it for what could instead be self-control and wise choices.
